Senior Systems Engineer

Here at Stratix, we love to give credit where credit is due. We are extremely lucky to have employees who go above and beyond, and each month we choose an employee to spotlight and acknowledge their work and collaboration as a teammate. Today we are spotlighting Zengman Huang. As one of our longest-serving teammates, Zengman's persistence and work ethic have not gone unnoticed over his decades at Stratix.  

What is your role at Stratix, and how long have you been here?

I am the Senior Systems Engineer here at Stratix, and I'm proud to have worked here for almost 22 years. From my first day to now, I've been working on bar code verification projects as an engineer. I designed and developed Stratix Xaminer Elite and eZ-2D bar code verifiers along with various software tools for verifier production. I also worked on customer and sales support by providing bar code sample analysis, recommendations, and solutions. I also assist all our overseas resellers in China and Japan.

What do you like about working at Stratix?

Stratix's greatest assets are its people, as we truly respect and help each other. We also have a strong leadership team that has worked here for many years. I really enjoy working with everyone as part of a team. As a result, we have consistently delivered above and beyond customer-centric solutions because that is what makes us great.

What got you interested in your role, and what do you love about your job?

My strengths are in logic and mathematics, and I am truly passionate about using software engineering to solve problems. The projects that I work on are an excellent fit for me because there's lots of decoding to be done. It's like solving a puzzle with math and algorithms, and I love it. 

What do you find the most challenging?

One of the biggest challenges of my work includes developing an algorithm for 2D bar codes. It looks simple at first, but it is actually very difficult to perform the full analysis, decoding, and verification. It can be a very creative process, and sometimes I must step away, close my eyes and start again to find different ways of solving the problem. However, it is my passion, and I have always had the focus to accomplish my goals.

 What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

The best career lesson I learned is to focus and always keep learning. In the software world, every year, technology evolves. You must learn constantly, or else you will fall behind. Teamwork is also crucial in my role because I work with many different people and departments to create and maintain the products our customers use.

Which of the Stratix Core Values do you identify with the most and why? 

Being customer-obsessed is the most important core value to me. We work in an industry that requires customer retention. Our team has a lot of customers, and many of them return because we provide good customer service. When customers call, we provide an analysis and solutions in a timely manner, and that is what keeps the customers returning.

What do you like to do when you aren't working? 

When I am not working, I really enjoy learning and researching new technologies in software development and improving my software skills. In my spare time, I love cooking to make delicious food. 

If you could switch jobs or departments with anyone else within Stratix whose job would you choose?

I would switch with anyone with a software role. Coding is my passion, so a job that involves coding would be perfect for me. I love learning new things that challenge me every day.
